Convert 2 EV Chapter 1 Review

In this post, I am going to write about Chapter One of Convert 2 EV e-book by Les and Jane Oke. The first chapter is call “Finding A Vehicle to Convert”.

If anyone who is planning to convert a car to electric, it is obvious that you must have a car for the retrofitting process. This is quite an important step because if you were to choose the wrong type of car, the conversion process may not work. Worst still, you may end up endangering yourself driving on the road.

What the author recommends is to decide what you want the car to do for you. Do you want it to carry passenger or cargo? If cargo, how much cargo do you want to carry? It is recommended for you to get a smaller car because it is light weight and can get you better mileage per charge. It is basic science, the lighter the body, the less power you will need to propel it forward.

The next key point in this chapter is “Use a manual transmission vehicle”. I think this is important because is was highlighted in BOLD. A vehicle with an automatic transmission would not work properly on an EV because it will need the internal combustion engine to be running constantly. Constant power is required to pump transmission fluid to make the transmission work. An electric motor on an EV will stop turning when the electric vehicle is at rest. Hence automatic transmission is no good.

There are a few more points in this chapter of Convert 2 EV. But I don’t think I will cover it all because it will make this post rather lengthy. If you want to get more information on the e-book, click the link below to go to Convert 2 EV main page.
